BIOS 3.00.253 update problems Reply to this post

After upgrading my Sprinter's BIOS to 3.00.253, the DOS seems extremely unreliable. Flex Navigator is usually okay, but sometimes I cannot even boot with the following message:

"Can't open file SYSTEM.EXE... The system has been halted. Press RESET to restart your computer."

When using DOS commands, I sometimes get hangs or spectacular colourful crashes. Doing "DIR" always produces odd-looking directories (with bits of text missing, or silly values for sizes, dates etc, or DOS version message printed within). Restoring to BIOS 2.12.251 solves the problems. I have tried updating several times, but always get the same problems.

Does anyone know what is causing this, and how to solve it? Must I upgrade any other software (DSS?) at the same time? The Flash-ROM Writer reports chip 39SF020, if that is any help.

Thanks,

Garry

May be, cause in RAM. Can you change RAM (4M-8M 72pin SIMM, FPM or EDO) on the Sprinter mainboard? It will be more quick way for test.

Yes, it seems to work okay with a 16Mb SIMM from my PC - but the PC is slower ;-)
